Silent Indoor Pellet Trap

Silent Indoor Pellet Trap

Silent Target for Pellet Guns

This target system captures air gun pellets without noise, ricochets, or lead dust. This silent pellet trap is perfect for indoor target shooting.

Silent Indoor Pellet Trap

This pellet trap holds a cheap standard 5.5-inch air gun paper target. The target body is designed to be stuffed with FREE absorbent materials that silently capture the pellets. The result is a VERY inexpensive indoor pellet shooting target!

This silent pellet trap is a BETTER alternative to steel targets and traps. The silent pellet trap has the following advantages:

  • No impact noise. Unlike steel traps, the silent pellet trap absorbs the pellet without any sound! (The user stuffs the silent pellet trap with free absorbent materials.)
  • No ricochets of pellets. All pellets are contained inside the silent pellet trap.
  • No lead dust from disintegrating pellets. The pellets expand after hitting the target face and soft trap stuffing.
  • No added expense. No need to continually repaint steel targets or backstops.
  • Use cheap 5.5-inch paper targets - or make your own using a half-sheet of 8.5" x 11" paper!
Pellet Trap Stuffed

The silent pellet trap is ALSO a better alternative than other trap designs filled with electrical conduit putty. The user stuffs this indoor silent pellet trap with FREE absorbent materials. There is NO REQUIREMENT to shop for, order or buy electrical sealing putty blocks to catch the pellets. (Some target shooters have spent as much as $50.00 for this sealing putty – over and above the cost of the pellet trap!!!)

What should I stuff the silent pellet trap with to absorb pellets from my air rifle?
  • Start with the shipping film used to wrap the silent pellet trap for UPS delivery!
  • Carpet scraps, carpet padding scraps, or upholstery scraps.
  • Old t-shirts, strips from rags or towels, or old jeans.
  • Strips of poly tarps, scraps of construction plastic (Tyvek), and balls of plastic shopping bags.
  • My favorite: the contents of old, shot out archery targets!

Check out the video below:

Recycle for free! The possibilities are almost endless! There is NO REASON to pay for stuffing. Just scrounge around the house or workshop and you should be able to find a LIFETIME supply of stuffing for your silent pellet trap!!!

The “trick” is to use soft materials that you can stuff into the target box. Cram as much filling as will fit and then compact the contents with your fist or a scrap of 2×4. The silent pellet trap is build of 3/4-inch construction plywood – it can take all the stuffing you can cram in! You will find that leaving an inch or two of space behind the paper target will make inserting and changing targets easier.

*** DO NOT USE hard rubber material (like scraps of inner tubes) or any metal. You want to ONLY use materials that are soft and will absorb the impact of the pellets – NOT anything that will cause the pellet to bounce back towards the shooter!

*** I also do NOT recommend using soft, loose materials in the silent pellet trap, like pillow stuffing, packing peanuts, or blown-in insulation. First of all, these materials will spill out of the silent pellet trap. Secondly, there isn’t enough resistance to stop high-powered pellets.

Every time you change the paper target, give the stuffing a look. Pack it tighter and add more stuffing if needed. You may want to “stir” the stuffing to prevent a hole from forming directly behind the bulls eye – assuming you are a good shot!

The silent pellet trap can also be used for BB guns and air soft guns with equally good results.

The silent pellet trap (and pellet trap kit) is delivered unfinished. Light sanding is recommended if you choose to paint or stain the plywood. Painting or staining with an exterior finish is recommended for extended outdoor use.
